The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested four drug peddlers in Kano State as part of an operation targeting the illicit trade and distribution of controlled substances.
Those arrested persons Abubakar Abdullahi, 35; Rabiu Baffa, 25; Aminu Lawan, 35; and Ibrahim Idris, 33, were apprehended after NSCDC operatives acted on credible intelligence and carried out a covert operation to track individuals allegedly involved in the illegal drug business.
The quatre, all residents of Gaida, were nabbed by the personnel of the Counter Terrorism Unit yesterday in the area located in Kumbotso Local Government Area, as relayed by the Public Relations Officer Abdulahi Ibrahim on Monday
Ibrahim said that officers of the agency recovered four sachets of Pregabalin 300mg capsules, commonly called “PG”, several Diazepam tablets known locally as “Fara”, and three tubes of Oshin Solution, also referred to as “Sholisho”.
Also, the operatives seized three large packs and 20 parcels of suspected marijuana from the suspects, according to the command.
The Kano State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Agalama, warned members of the public, particularly youths, against participating in the illegal sale, distribution or abuse of drugs.
Agalama described drug abuse as a major threat to public safety and security, noting that its consequences could particularly affect young people and the wider community.
He added that the suspects would be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Kano after preliminary investigation by the NSCDC.
“After a preliminary investigation by the Corps, the four suspects and the recovered exhibits would be handed over to the NDLEA, Kano Command, for further investigation and necessary legal action,” he said.
The commandant also reaffirmed the NSCDC’s readiness to work with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to curb drug-related offences and activities capable of threatening peace in Kano State.
He urged residents to provide security agencies with reliable information about suspected illicit drug activities, assuring them that such reports would be handled confidentially.
