A yet-to-be-identified Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) has died after being crushed by a truck while attempting to stop the vehicle in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
As gathered, the incident occurred opposite Mega Primary School, along Hospital Road, where the officer attempted to intercept the truck, which was already on the fast lane.
The officer’s attempt to stop the truck was unsuccessful, and he was crushed beneath the vehicle.
A video circulating online on Friday showed fellow officers attempting to rescue him from beneath the truck, while bystanders were heard screaming.
As of press time, efforts to obtain official reactions from the Ondo State Vehicle Inspection Service and the Ondo State Police Command were ongoing.
Meanwhile, the officer’s remains have been evacuated from the scene, while traffic, which was disrupted for hours following the incident, has been restored.
