Egypt forward Mohamed Salah has moved into an elite group of African players with the highest combined goals and assists in FIFA World Cup history.
The milestone came after Salah scored and provided an assist during Egypt’s comeback victory over New Zealand.
Egypt recovered from an early setback to secure a 3-1 win, with Salah playing a key role in the result.
Egyptian star climbs historic ranking
According to Opta, Salah now has three goals and two assists at the World Cup, placing him among Africa’s top performers in combined goal contributions.
The former Liverpool forward is currently behind Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan and Cameroon icon Roger Milla on the all-time African ranking.
The leading African players with the most World Cup goals and assists combined are:
- Asamoah Gyan – 6 goals, 3 assists
- Roger Milla – 5 goals, 1 assist
- Wahbi Khazri – 3 goals, 2 assists

Speaking after Egypt’s win, Salah described the achievement as a proud moment for the team.
The captain praised his teammates and staff while insisting the focus would quickly shift to their next challenge.
