Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore was involved in a tense confrontation with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) following a Federal High Court order in Abuja.
The court had ordered his remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre, pending further hearing of his case.
The situation unfolded within the court premises shortly after the ruling was delivered.
Sowore resists DSS vehicle transfer
In a video circulating online, Sowore was seen objecting to being transported in a Black Maria van used by security operatives.
He questioned the decision and insisted on an alternative arrangement, stating that he was unwilling to enter the vehicle.
Sowore argued that he preferred another form of transportation due to personal discomfort, suggesting a standard vehicle instead.
Despite the exchange, DSS operatives maintained their position as they attempted to enforce the court order.
Court order and legal background
The Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier directed that Sowore be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre until June 24, 2026.
The ruling was issued ahead of a scheduled hearing on his motion challenging the revocation of his bail and a bench warrant issued against him.
Sowore is facing charges filed by the DSS, including cyberstalking and alleged criminal defamation linked to social media comments about President Bola Tinubu.
