The Delta State House of Assembly says it passed five bills, including the 2026 Appropriation Bill, and increased the state’s 2026 budget by N65 billion during its third legislative session.

The Speaker, Mr Dennis Guwor, disclosed this on Thursday in Asaba while reviewing the performance of the 8th Assembly as it marked its third anniversary.

Guwor said the Assembly received 11 bills during the session, comprising five executive bills and six private members’ bills.

He said Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori had assented to four of the five bills passed by the Assembly, while one was still pending assent.

According to him, the passed bills include the 2026 Appropriation Bill, the 2025 Supplementary Appropriation Bill, and the Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

The Speaker said lawmakers increased the 2026 budget from N1.664 trillion to N1.729 trillion to provide additional funding for critical projects across the state.

He described the Delta State Revenue Service Bill, 2026, as landmark legislation aimed at improving revenue generation and eliminating multiple taxation.

Guwor said the Assembly remained committed to its constitutional responsibilities of lawmaking, oversight and representation.

He noted that the legislature had maintained a cordial relationship with the executive arm while preserving the principle of separation of powers.

According to him, the collaboration has contributed significantly to the implementation of Gov. Oborevwori’s agenda.

The Speaker said residents had witnessed major infrastructure projects, including flyovers in Uvwie, Warri, Ughelli and Agbor, as well as improvements in road networks and healthcare services.

He added that the Assembly screened and confirmed nominees into key state commissions and approved several audited financial reports during the period.

Guwor reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to people-oriented legislation, transparency, accountability and sustainable development(NAN)
