IGP Honours 14 Officers for Gallantry, Promotes Five Police Aviators
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has honoured 14 police officers for exceptional bravery and gallantry during anti-banditry operations, while five Police Air Wing personnel received accelerated promotions for professional excellence and outstanding service.
The recognition was presented during the decoration of newly promoted officers and presentation of letters of commendation to personnel of the Nigeria Police Air Wing.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Air Wing, Martin Nwogoh, said the honours reflected the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to rewarding courage, professionalism and operational excellence.
Nwogoh disclosed that some of the officers being honoured successfully completed critical missions despite sustaining gunshot wounds during operations.
He said the personnel demonstrated exceptional courage under hostile fire, with some safely manoeuvring their aircraft to secure locations after sustaining injuries, placing mission accomplishment above personal safety.
According to him, aerial surveillance and bombardment have become critical to the fight against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes, enhancing intelligence gathering, precision operations and support for ground troops.
Nwogoh said the Police Air Wing had evolved into a vital component of Nigeria’s security architecture, conducting aerial surveillance, search and rescue, medical evacuation, logistics support, election security and counter-insurgency operations.
He added that the accelerated promotion of the five police aviators reflected the IGP’s commitment to merit, professional development and personnel welfare.
The commissioner urged the promoted officers to regard their new ranks as a call to greater responsibility, leadership and accountability, while maintaining discipline, integrity and selfless service.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Assistant Commissioner of Police Oyewuwo Tesleem described the recognition as a tribute to courage, discipline and teamwork.
He dedicated the honour to his colleagues and fallen officers, pledging that the recognition would further strengthen their resolve to serve Nigeria with professionalism, integrity and commitment to duty.
Other speakers commended the Nigeria Police Force for its sustained efforts in combating insurgency, banditry and other emerging security threats across the country.
