The historical film King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos has premiered in Lagos, drawing traditional rulers, cultural figures, Nollywood personalities and other distinguished guests to an evening celebrating Yoruba history and heritage.
The world premiere took place on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at IMAX Cinema in Lekki, ahead of the film’s planned nationwide cinema release on Friday, August 28.
Produced by Teqsus Studios, the premiere brought together members of the traditional institution, representatives of the Nigerian film industry and personalities from the wider cultural community.
The attendance of traditional rulers, high chiefs and members of the Kosoko royal family added significance to the event, reflecting the historical importance of the story being presented on screen.
The film focuses on King Kosoko, a prominent figure in Lagos history, and seeks to bring his story and the struggles surrounding his era to a contemporary cinema audience.
The premiere also provided an opportunity for members of the cultural and creative communities to celebrate a production centred on Yoruba heritage and the history of Lagos.
With its nationwide cinema release scheduled for August 28, audiences across Nigeria will have the opportunity to see the historical epic when it opens in cinemas.
