Country music icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80, bringing to a close the remarkable life and career of one of the most influential figures in American music and entertainment.
Parton died peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, according to a statement from her representatives and an announcement by her nephew, Bryan Seaver. Her family has not disclosed a cause of death.
Seaver, who served as Parton’s longtime head of security, announced her death in an emotional video shared on social media, describing the moment as one marked by both pride and profound sadness.
From Poverty to Global Stardom
Born in 1946 in rural Tennessee, Parton grew up in a large family with limited financial resources. She was one of 12 children and began performing at a young age before eventually moving to Nashville to pursue a professional career in music.
Her songwriting abilities quickly distinguished her from her peers, and she went on to become one of the most prolific and commercially successful singer-songwriters in music history.

Her death comes about 17 months after that of her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, whom she married in 1966.
Dean died in March 2025 at the age of 82 after nearly six decades of marriage.
