Nigerian music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has revealed that Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr has had a major impact on his life since joining his record label.
The Mavin Records boss made the revelation while responding to a post on X praising him for helping launch Ayra Starr’s music career.
An X user, @_Fabianszn, shared an old photo of the singer and credited Don Jazzy with changing the direction of her career, suggesting that she might still have been teaching kindergarten children if he had not discovered her.
Don Jazzy responded by saying that the relationship had benefited him as well.
He recalled that he first came across Ayra Starr through a freestyle she posted on Instagram and said he remains grateful that the video brought her to his attention.
“She has most definitely changed my own life too,” Don Jazzy wrote, describing Ayra Starr as a “dream Starrgirl.”
How Don Jazzy discovered Ayra StarrAyra Starr’s relationship with Mavin Records began in 2020 after Don Jazzy noticed her online freestyles and song covers.
She subsequently joined the label and developed into one of Nigeria’s prominent young music stars.
Since her emergence, Ayra Starr has recorded several successful songs and built an international audience, establishing herself as one of the leading names in the new generation of African music.
Don Jazzy’s latest comments show that he views their professional relationship as mutually transformative, rather than simply describing himself as the person responsible for her breakthrough.
The music executive’s response also highlights how social media played a role in connecting him with an artist who would later become one of Mavin’s biggest stars.
