The mother of Afrobeats performer Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, known professionally as Ayra Starr, has undertaken street-based promotional activities for her daughter’s forthcoming “Starr Girl” album ahead of its August 14 release.
Nene Aderibigbe, recognisable as Genzmummy on social media, orchestrated a campaign featuring herself, the artist’s sister and additional women dressed in coordinated black attire and purple headwear carrying promotional placards.
The campaign messaging designated the album release date whilst invoking spiritual affirmation for the project.
The promotional effort precedes the official launch of “Starr Girl,” Ayra Starr’s third studio album following previous releases “19 & Dangerous” in 2021 and “The Year I Turned 21” in May 2024.
Aderibigbe, born in Cotonou, Benin Republic and reared in Lagos, achieved international prominence following her signing to Mavin Records and subsequent 2021 EP release.
The 2022 single “Rush” secured a Grammy nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Grammy Awards ceremony, establishing her position within contemporary African music landscapes.
