Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked a community in Borno and killed 15 farmers and firewood gatherers and also kidnapped three other people causing massive unrest in the area.
The kidnappers ambushed the victims, consisting of young and elderly men and women while they were working on their while some bodies were allegedly found with severe injuries.
After the incident, which occurred around the Ala and Musune wards of Marte Local Government Area on yesterday, sources disclosed that 18 people were said to have gone to the area, but only 15 bodies had been recovered and buried by Thursday, with three others still unaccounted for.
Borno State Police Command spokesperson, Nahum Daso, confirmed the attack on Friday and said security personnel were working to establish the whereabouts of those still missing.
“Yes, there was an attack in Marte. 15 people were killed, while others are still missing. Efforts are ongoing to determine their whereabouts,” Daso said.
Daso added that information about the incident remained limited, noting that the police would provide further details after completing their data-gathering efforts.
Meanwhile, community members reportedly recovered the bodies from the affected area and buried them in accordance with Islamic rites.
The attack has renewed concerns over the security of rural residents in Marte, particularly those who have to leave their communities to farm or gather firewood for food and income.
