Police probes 60yr old man’s death inside Jigawa hotel

The Jigawa State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 60-year-old man who reportedly suffered a medical emergency while lodging at a hotel in Dutse, the state capital.

The Command stated that the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at about 12:50 p.m., involved the deceased, who had checked into the hotel in the company of a 20-year-old woman.

According to the police, the man suddenly developed a medical emergency shortly after requesting a meal, with witnesses reporting that he was gasping for air.

Police officers attached to the Yalwawa Division responded immediately after receiving a distress call and rushed the victim to the General Hospital, Dutse.

However, despite efforts to save him, medical personnel examined him and certified him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, detectives secured the hotel room and carried out a preliminary investigation. During the exercise, investigators recovered food items, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance, and other personal belongings belonging to the deceased.

The items have been taken into custody for forensic examination as part of efforts to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.

The police said all necessary procedures were followed to preserve exhibits and other evidence that may aid the ongoing investigation.

After medical certification and the completion of statutory procedures, the remains of the deceased were released to his family for burial in accordance with their request.

The 20-year-old woman who accompanied the deceased to the hotel has not been identified as a suspect and is cooperating with investigators.

According to the police, she has been providing useful information to assist detectives in reconstructing the sequence of events leading to the man’s death.

Confirming the development on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command, Lawan Adam, said the investigation remains ongoing and that no conclusions have been reached regarding the cause of death.

He stated that detectives are examining all available evidence, including items recovered from the scene, while awaiting the outcome of further investigations to establish what transpired before the victim’s collapse.

 

The Commissioner of Police, assured residents that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, professionally and impartially, stressing that every relevant lead would be explored before any conclusions are drawn.

The command also appealed to members of the public to refrain from speculation or circulating unverified information capable of causing unnecessary anxiety or prejudicing the investigation, assuring that further updates would be provided as more facts emerge.
