A 45-year-old man, Oladipo Tope, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court over an alleged ₦9 million car sale fraud.
The defendant is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and fraudulent conversion.
During proceedings on Wednesday, the prosecuting counsel, Elijah Adejare, told the court that Tope and other suspects still at large allegedly committed the offences on November 11, 2025, within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District.
Adejare alleged that the defendant conspired with the fleeing suspects to defraud one Babatunde Rotimi by falsely claiming he would sell him a 2013 model Hyundai vehicle.
He told the court that the complainant paid ₦9 million for the vehicle, but the defendant allegedly failed to deliver the car and instead converted the money to his personal use.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged offences contravene Sections 421, 328, 329(3), 295 and 302(6) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
