The Nigerian female national football team, Super Falcons, bid to lift its 11th Women African nations cup trophy has suffered a major setback after the team lost to the Malawians 3-2 during its 2026 WAFCON opening match in Morocco.
Following the defeat, the Nigerian team dropped to third spot on group C behind the group leader, Zambia, and Malawi who occupied fhe second spot after the victory against the defending champion.
Super Falcons, who went two goals behind in the second half of the game after a goalless draw in the first half rallied to equalise but lost concentration at the twilight of the game and conceded the third.
During the game on Tuesday, the Nigerian ladies, who could not breakdown the Malawians defense. committed unforced errors through wrong passes and trying to play their opponents in offside, both tactics failed and resulted in goals against the defending champions.
