Popular Nigerian dancer Iweh Odinaka, widely known as Poco Lee, has been remanded in a United Kingdom prison over an alleged assault offence.
Reports of Poco Lee’s alleged detention in the UK began circulating on social media on August 19, although details surrounding the case were initially unclear.
The development was confirmed on Monday by founder of the Community of Nigerians in the United Kingdom, Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby.
Kuti said Poco Lee is currently being held on remand in a UK prison and is expected to appear in court in the second week of September for a plea hearing.
According to Kuti, the hearing will provide an opportunity for the dancer to enter a plea of either guilty or not guilty to the alleged offence.
“I will also be attending the court proceedings as part of my support for the Nigerian community in the UK, to ensure that our fellow Nigerian receives the appropriate support during this difficult period of his life,” Kuti said.
While confirming the dancer’s remand, Kuti urged members of the public to allow the judicial process to take its course and refrain from drawing conclusions before the case is determined.
He stressed that Poco Lee remains innocent unless and until he is found guilty by a court of law.
