The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has endorsed Micheal Agbo’s emergence as the national chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party ahead of the 2027 election.
INEC announced its recognition of Agbo by uploading its name on its portal, stating that the new designee, replacing Bala Yusuf, who operated as a factional chairman, has been authenticated.
The electoral body also updated its records with the names of members of the party’s National Working Committee including the National Secretary, Olaposi Ogini, the National Treasurer, Adetoyese Omokanye, National Financial Secretary, Anthony Apugo, and National Legal Adviser, Asuquo Ibok.
Following the development on Wednesday, Agbo said, ”I am pleased to formally announce that the complete upload of the duly recognised National Working Committee under my leadership has been concluded by INEC.
”We were sure that the judiciary would do justice to the issues and we are indeed disappointed. They proved to be truly the last hope of the common man, rose to the occasion, defended our democracy and rule of law in the face of avoidable threat,” he added, and also disclosed that the party had begun preparations for the 2027 general elections following the electoral commission’s recognition of the new leadership.
Agbo disclosed that the political party is determined to present competent, credible and people-oriented candidates who will champion good governance and national development in line with our manifesto, and also urged the INEC to remain steadfast, impartial and committed to conducting free, fair, credible and transparent elections come 2027.
Yusuf confirmed the development, but said that he was not in a position to address the matter in detail.
