The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers who allegedly terrorised communities across the state following an intelligence-led operation.
The suspects were tracked and arrested by detectives attached to the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department of Zone One Police Headquarters on the directive of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, Garba Ahmed.
Those arrested include Yakubu Adamu, popularly known as Danfulani, 28; Abubakar Hassan, also known as Baba, 21; Barhama Ayatullah, nicknamed Mai Zangi, 25; and Abdulgaffar Sidi, 25, who was arrested for allegedly receiving and selling mobile phones stolen during robbery operations.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, Abdullahi Hussaini, the arrests followed a detailed investigation into an armed robbery case involving the theft of a vehicle, mobile phones, jewellery, wristwatches and other valuables worth millions of naira.
He added that the stolen vehicle was smuggled out of Nigeria and later sold in Maradi, Niger Republic, while efforts were ongoing to recover it and apprehend other members of the syndicate still at large.
The police spokesperson said the operation reflected the command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led policing and the pursuit of criminal suspects, regardless of how long investigations take.
He further noted that detectives were directed to carry out a comprehensive investigation, which led to significant breakthroughs in the case.
The command reiterated its resolve to combat violent crime and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
It added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
