Manchester City have reached an agreement with Chelsea over the release of Enzo Maresca as the club prepares to appoint him as their new manager.
The Premier League champions are set to pay €20 million to terminate Maresca’s contract with Chelsea, according to reports from Sky Sport Italia.
Maresca is expected to travel to Manchester to complete the move and sign a three-year contract with the Etihad club.
Italian coach to replace Guardiola
The Italian manager will take over from Pep Guardiola, who left his role at Manchester City at the end of last season after a successful spell in charge.
Maresca had remained under contract with Chelsea despite leaving the club earlier in January.
City identified him as their preferred option to continue the managerial structure built during Guardiola’s era.
Previous Guardiola connection
Maresca’s appointment is also linked to his previous experience working alongside Guardiola.
The former midfielder served as Guardiola’s assistant coach during the 2022/23 season, giving him familiarity with City’s football philosophy and coaching methods.
Manchester City now hope Maresca can maintain the club’s winning culture and continue their success in domestic and European competitions.
