Three security operatives, including a police officer, were reportedly killed following an attack by suspected gunmen on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State.
The incident occurred when the armed men attempted to force their way into the premises of the institute, widely regarded as Nigeria’s premier policy and leadership training centre.
The operatives were said to have engaged the attackers in a gun battle in an attempt to repel them, but were killed by gunshot wounds sustained during the exchange.
Sources said the gunmen fled the scene after the attack, leaving the victims behind and escaping to an unknown destination.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The development has raised concerns over the security of strategic national institutions, with calls for strengthened protection of critical government facilities.
Security agencies are expected to commence investigations into the attack, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
