Troops Rescue Late Gen. Rabe’s Wife From Bandits
Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have rescued Mrs Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, from bandits weeks after she was abducted alongside her husband.
Mrs Abubakar, whose husband a former Director of Defence Information, died in captivity following their abduction, was rescued during intensified search-and-rescue operations conducted by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA.
Military authorities said the operation followed sustained offensive actions and mounting pressure on criminal elements operating within affected communities.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Director Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Samaila Uba, troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village, leading to the successful recovery of Mrs Abubakar.
Uba disclosed that the bandits shot Mrs Abubakar during the encounter before abandoning her and fleeing in the face of advancing troops.
“In the course of the encounter, the bandits shot Mrs Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing due to the overwhelming pressure from advancing troops,” the statement said.
He added that Mrs Abubakar was immediately evacuated to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving medical attention and responding to treatment.
The Defence Headquarters said the Armed Forces of Nigeria remained committed to ensuring her full recovery and was providing necessary support to her family.
The military also vowed to sustain ongoing operations to track down those responsible for the abduction and intensify efforts to rid communities of terrorists and bandits across Katsina State and other parts of the country.
The rescue comes days after the Defence Headquarters announced the death of the retired senior military officer in captivity, describing his passing as a painful loss and reaffirming the military’s resolve to intensify operations against criminal networks nationwide.
