The Ekiti State government has shut all its public, private primary and secondary schools ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
The government made the disclosure in an issued statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Adenike Akinyemi, disclosing that the measure is part of the necessary steps to be taken to ensure readiness for the elections.
In the circular with reference number MOE/ADM/2026/006, released on Thursday, the executive arm ordered all the educational facilities to be shut from Friday, a day to the Saturday 20th poll day, directing that normal educational activities would resume on Monday June 23, except otherwise directed, however, stating that the ruling would not affect the West African Examination Council, WAEC, examination.
It also notified that the scholls may be used during the election, directing all heads of schools to key into the directive and cooperate with election officers and security agencies to ensure a smooth access and use of school property.
