A 40-year-old woman, Ifeoma Chianumba, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing her colleague, Vivian Azinge, with a knife and causing her severe body injuries.
Chianumba, on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault occasioning harm, and causing grievous harm was remanded after the police prosecutor, Josephine Ikhayere, informed the court that the defendant, alongside several accomplices who remain at large, committed the offenses and contravened the enshrined laws of the state.
Ikhayere stated that the alleged offenders commited the offence in Okota area, a violent attack on the complainant, Vivian Azinge during an altercation, after the defendant used a knife to stab Azinge on her right hand, inflicting multiple deep injuries.
The prosecutor stated that the alleged offenses contravene Sections 173, 245, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
When the charges were read to her, the defendant, Ifeoma Chianumba, pleaded not guilty to all three counts.
Under the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Section 173 deals with assault occasioning harm, Section 245 addresses grievous harm, and Section 411 governs conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor or felony.
In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Lateef Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦300,000. As part of the bail conditions, Chianumba is required to provide two responsible sureties in like sum.
The court ordered that the sureties must have verifiable addresses and proof of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
The matter has been adjourned until July 7 for further proceedings and the commencement of the trial.
