Fire guts Polaris bank in Lagos Island

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that a fire outbreak occurred at the Polaris Bank Building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, but said the situation was quickly brought under control with no casualties recorded.

The incident occurred at about 11:33 a.m. on Thursday and involved a stationary saloon car parked on the third floor of the 17-storey building, which also serves as a parking facility.

The fire caused panic among workers, residents, and passers-by, as thick smoke was seen billowing from the building, with videos of the incident circulating on social media.

Firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations responded promptly after receiving a distress call and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other vehicles or parts of the building.

According to the agency, only the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings were damaged, while no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

The Fire and Rescue Service added that the operation has been concluded and normalcy has since been restored to the area.
