THE Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL), has initiated a conflict management, conflict risk mapping and peace building training programme, to strengthen security and improve project implementation in Gombe State.
The Project Coordinator, Dr Sani Jauro, said this at the inauguration of a three-day peace building training exercise, on Thursday in Gombe.
He said the exercise was designed to enhance security awareness, promote peaceful coexistence and support the effective implementation of ACReSAL interventions in communities.
Jauro highlighted that peace remained the foundation for sustainable development, and urged community leaders to support government efforts and cooperate with relevant authorities to ensure successful project delivery.
He said that continuous training of communities on security awareness, conflict prevention and peace building was a key components of the ACReSAL Security Management Plan.
The coordinator said the World Bank has approved an additional four-year extension of the programme following the successes recorded during its initial phase in the state.
He attributed the feat to the support of Gov. Inuwa Yahaya, and the commitment of stakeholders involved in the implementionmof the the project.
Jauro said Gombe State has been recognised as one of the leading states in peace building and security project implementation.
He assured that the additional four-year extension would be utilised, to strengthen peace building and conflict management in communities in the state.
Mr Kabiru Audu, Security Management Officer, ACReSAL, urged the participants to remain focused and actively engage throughout the training sessions.
Mohammed Yusuf, ACReSAL Desk Officer in charge of Billiri Local Government Area, pledged continuous support aimed at promoting sustainable community development and strengthening peace building.
Also, Ahmadu Ibrahim, the Magajin Garin Kaltungo, lauded the project, adding that ACReSAL interventions enhanced community leaders understandings of peace and its importance in addressing challenges.
He described the exercise as timely and impactful, adding that it deepened their understandings of conflict prevention, peace building and effective project implementation at the community level.
About 200 participants including community and relegious leaders, and civil society organisations attended the exercise. (NAN)
