THE Benue Government is seeking practical strategies to accelerate economic transformation, create jobs and drive sustainable prosperity.
The Group Managing Director of Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) Dr Raymond Asemakaha stated this on Tuesday at the Benue 2035 Economic Transformation, Capital Formation and Prosperity Summit in Makurdi.
Asemakaha said the summit with theme: From potential to prosperity was not merely another meeting but a platform to bring together government, investors, development partners and other stakeholders to chart a new economic direction for the state.
The GMD said Benue’s rising number of graduates underscored the urgent need to attract investment and create employment opportunities for its growing youthful population.
He urged participants to set aside official titles, share ideas openly and develop practical strategies capable of transforming the state’s economic potential.
Governor of Benue, Hyacinth Alia, said the state possessed enormous human and natural resources capable of creating lasting prosperity.
Alia stressed that potential must be converted into opportunities, investment and productive activities.
The governor said his administration was focused on creating an enabling environment through improved security, infrastructure, quality education, healthcare, investment and strong institutions.
He urged participants to challenge assumptions, identify opportunities and develop executable strategies in areas including agriculture, security, infrastructure, human capital development, technology and investment.
Also, Mr Tom Isehohi, a financial expert with Hudson Global Consulting, said the 5 billion (N6.6 trillion) dollar investment target was achievable, provided Benue sustained good leadership, strong ideas and a track record of successful implementation.
Isehohi, who said he had been a banker since 1985, explained that investors were attracted to environments with credible leadership, viable projects and confidence that their funds would be properly managed.
“Money goes to places where you have good leadership, great ideas, and a track record of regular success,” he said.
He said Hudson Global Consulting had used the Swift Alignment of Strategic Imperative (SASI) methodology since 2004 to help organisations develop strategies and secure the commitment of stakeholders needed for effective implementation.
He stressed the need for a clear strategy to convert the state’s vision into bankable projects capable of attracting investment.
Isehohi commended the governor for personally participating in the summit, saying such commitment would boost stakeholders’ confidence in the state’s economic transformation agenda.
The summit brought together government officials, financial experts, traditional rulers, captains of industry, partners and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for economic transformation and capital formation in Benue. (NAN)
