Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reached out to former governors of the state and the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as part of efforts to promote peace, reconciliation and unity following the August 15 governorship election, where he emerged victorious.
According to Adeleke, he contacted former Governors Bisi Akande, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Rauf Aregbesola to discuss the need for peace, reconciliation and unity in the state.
He also reached out by phone to former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji but was unable to speak with them.
Adeleke disclosed this in a statement on Friday to mark the 35th anniversary of the creation of Osun State.
He said his message to the political leaders was that “there is no victor, no vanquished,” adding that the election was over and it was time to heal, reconcile and unite the people.
According to the governor, he remained conscious of the charge by President Bola Tinubu to champion peacebuilding and state reconciliation.
Adeleke pledged to continue reaching out to stakeholders regardless of political affiliation, saying Osun belonged to everyone and should provide an environment where residents could enjoy the dividends of democracy and benefit from continued development.
“This is a sacred responsibility I am passionately committed to. I will not stop in my peace and reconciliation drive. Together, we will heal Osun, unite our people and build a greater state,” he said.
