Fire guts Osun plywood warehouse

A fire outbreak has gutted a plywood warehouse along the Osogbo–Ikirun Road in Osogbo, Osun State, destroying goods estimated at N2.5 million.

The fire, which occurred at about 6:44am on Monday, was suspected to have been caused by an electrical surge from a 33kVA service wire.

The affected warehouse, measuring approximately 50 metres by 50 metres, is located beside Fakunle Comprehensive High School, opposite the MRS Filling Station, and was used to store different types of plywood.

Confirming the incident, the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Osun State Command, said it received a distress call from Oyegoke, Assistant Secretary of the Osun State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ojo Olamide, its fire appliance, FFS 142, left the station at about 6:46am and arrived at the scene roughly 12 minutes later, with Adesola Joyce leading the firefighting crew.

He said the firefighters succeeded in containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to other properties in the area.

The FFS said goods worth approximately N2.5 million were destroyed, while property estimated at about N70 million was saved during the operation. No casualty was recorded.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report fire incidents to the appropriate authorities to minimise the loss of lives and property.
