The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three drug peddlers during a joint security operation in Nasarawa State.
The suspects were apprehended after NDLEA operatives stopped vehicles and commuters for checks and found suspected crystal methamphetamine, also known as “ice”, in their possession.
It was gathered on Thursday that the arrests were made at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday along the Keffi-Abuja road in Karu Local Government Area of the state.
An NDLEA source familiar with the operation said operatives carried out the snap check along major highways as part of efforts to detect the movement of illicit substances through the busy transportation route.
After the suspects were taken into custody, the recovered substance was secured as an exhibit, and NDLEA remanded the three men into custody.
The agency is expected to conduct further investigations to establish the identities of the suspects and determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged drug trafficking activity.
The Guild reports that the operation is part of wider security efforts to curb the transportation and distribution of illegal drugs through major highways and other transit routes across the country.
