American football league side, Inter Miami, has announced that Argentina footballer, Lionel Messi, has gone on sabbatical from all activities of the sport following the death of his father, Jorge.
Inter Miami, in a released statement, held that Messi has decided to stay in Argentina for a few more days, adding that it has given Messi time to recover from the trauma of his father’s death, placing no pressure on him to return to the club.
The club, in the statement made available on Tuesday, held that the football legend is in grief over the devastating loss, and is now expected to spend time with his family in Rosario, standing by them in the difficult moment.
It states that the player and his wife, Antonela, have both travelled to the Argentine suburb, after learning of the tragic news, adding that his fans and well-wishers have sent tribute to him for support following the incident.
Reports have it that Jorge has been buried on Sunday, August 9 at the El Prado Cemetery in Perez, a close region to Rosario. He is survived by wife, Celia Cuccinttini, four children in Messi himself, Matias, Rodrigo, Maria, as well as grandkids.
