Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate Ademola Adeleke has expressed strong belief that his administrative record will propel his re-election in Saturday’s election.
Speaking during an Arise Townhall Meeting and through statements posted on his verified social media account on Tuesday, Adeleke addressed significant matters including state fiscal circumstances, his party transition and his well-known public dancing habit.
Regarding election expenditures, Adeleke disclosed that the state administration has operated under severe financial constraints resulting from federal budget allocations withheld at the local government level for nearly two years.
He stated that the administration lacks financial capacity to engage in vote purchasing, noting that state resources have been directed toward compensating local government workers throughout the period of federal funding disruption.
Adeleke expressed confidence in electoral outcomes without resorting to vote inducement, asserting that his delivery of worker palliative assistance since 2023 provides sufficient grounds for electoral support.
He maintained that his governance accomplishments would demonstrate his suitability for continued service without requiring financial incentives.
Addressing his transition from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Accord Party, Adeleke acknowledged the decision involved emotional difficulty but characterised it as necessary due to internal discord within his former party.
He expressed enduring affection for the PDP whilst explaining that party instability necessitated his departure.
He indicated that he would have contested as an independent candidate if Nigeria’s electoral framework permitted such candidacy.
Responding to criticism regarding his visible enjoyment of public celebrations, Adeleke defended his expressive demeanour as grounded in family cultural tradition rather than indicative of governance neglect.
He maintained that his celebratory participation coexists with committed administrative performance, emphasising that life permits allocation of time for both recreational and professional activities.
He rejected suggestions that dancing diminishes his capacity to deliver governmental services and infrastructure across state sectors.
Adeleke’s comments followed earlier statements at the town hall meeting wherein he dismissed concerns regarding opposition All Progressives Congress deployment of federal institutional support or gubernatorial backing to influence electoral results.
He characterised himself as resolute and independent, asserting that the presence of APC-supporting governors would not determine election outcomes.
