Two killed as motorcycle collides with pickup truck in Ogun

Two people lost their lives in a fatal road crash involving a motorcycle and a Dongfeng pickup truck at Koto Ajala, inbound Owode, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The victims, a male rider and his female passenger, died at the scene after the motorcycle reportedly lost control and collided with the oncoming pickup vehicle.

According to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the accident occurred while the motorcyclist was descending the Koto Ajala hill outbound Owode. Preliminary investigations indicated that excessive speed caused the rider to lose control before veering into the path of the pickup truck.

The motorcycle, bearing registration number FFF 689 HA, collided head-on with the Dongfeng pickup truck with registration number GGE 200 KP. While both occupants of the motorcycle died in the crash, no injuries were reported among occupants of the pickup vehicle.

Confirming the incident, TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi attributed the crash to excessive speed and loss of control by the motorcyclist.

“The crash claimed the lives of the two occupants of the motorcycle, while no other injuries were recorded. Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) evacuated the bodies to the Fakoya Hospital Morgue in Sagamu,” Akinbiyi said.

Emergency responders from TRACE and the FRSC promptly arrived at the scene, managed traffic, and cleared the roadway to restore the free flow of vehicles.

The damaged motorcycle and pickup truck were later towed to a nearby police station for further investigation and inspection.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of speeding, with road safety authorities urging motorists and motorcyclists to obey traffic regulations and exercise caution, particularly on hilly and high-risk sections of the road.
