Troops Arrest Suspected B’Haram Logistics Supplier, Wanted Spy in Borno
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected logistics supplier and a wanted intelligence operative linked to the Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist network during separate intelligence-led operations in Gubio and Monguno Local Government Areas of Borno State.
The arrests, carried out on July 27, are part of ongoing efforts by security forces to dismantle terrorist logistics and intelligence networks supporting insurgent activities across the North-East.
In Gubio Local Government Area, troops of the 149 Battalion (Motorised), working in collaboration with the Hybrid Forces and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), arrested Modu Rayami, 32, following credible intelligence linking him to the supply of logistics to terrorists operating along the Binduldul–Kareto axis.
The suspect was apprehended at Zowo village while allegedly transporting supplies believed to be destined for insurgents.
Items recovered from him included five jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), two jerrycans of palm oil, one bag each of salt, pepper and garri, six bags of flour, seven bags of sugar, one sack of soft drinks, and a mobile phone.
Security sources said the suspect confessed during preliminary interrogation to supplying fuel and food items to Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters operating in the Binduldul–Kareto corridor.
He and the recovered items are currently in military custody pending further investigation and prosecution.
In a separate operation in Monguno, security operatives arrested a wanted Boko Haram spy identified as Abulfatahi, who is being investigated for alleged involvement in the recent terrorist attack on Cross Kauwa and other insurgent activities.
According to security sources, the arrest followed sustained intelligence efforts to track members of a terrorist intelligence network operating in the area. Two other suspected members of the network had earlier been arrested and transferred to the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre (JIFC) for further investigation.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to working for a Boko Haram commander identified as Akilu, who is alleged to oversee terrorist operations in Dabar Masara and Garin Mace.
Investigators said the suspect confessed to collecting taxes on behalf of the terrorist commander and facilitating the identification of individuals for abduction around Monguno.
Security operatives also recovered two telephone numbers allegedly linked to the terrorist commander from the suspect’s mobile phone as part of efforts to dismantle the network.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to identify additional collaborators, determine the full extent of the network’s activities and strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Lake Chad region.
The latest arrests underscore the sustained intelligence-driven operations by Operation Hadin Kai aimed at disrupting terrorist logistics, financing and intelligence networks while denying insurgents access to supplies, local support and operational freedom across the North-East.
