Thousands of supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the banner of the Kwara APC G15, Monday, staged a solidarity walk in Ilorin, formally re-launching the OTOGE movement and declaring a renewed campaign against what they described as the abandonment of the ideals that ended the Saraki political dynasty in the state in 2019.
The coalition said the revived movement was aimed at confronting the leadership style of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, alleging that his administration had deviated from the principles of inclusion, justice and good governance that inspired the original OTOGE revolution.
The G15 comprises 10 leading governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the state’s three serving senators, a majority of APC members in the National Assembly, members of the Kwara state House of Assembly, the party’s Elders Caucus, youth and women leaders, as well as other stakeholders.
The procession, which began at the Geri-Alimi Underpass, moved through the Emir’s Palace and terminated at the Post Office in Ilorin, attracting thousands of APC supporters.
Addressing the crowd, leaders of the coalition said the large turnout reflected growing discontent within the ruling party and reaffirmed that the ideals of the OTOGE movement remained alive among many Kwarans.
In a statement issued after the rally, the coalition stated that it had recently held consultations in Abuja with senior APC stakeholders and other national leaders over developments within the party in Kwara state.
The group said the discussions focused on the unity of the APC in the state, the future of Kwara politics and the success of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We have come to the firm conclusion that we owe it to our supporters, to the people of Kwara state and to generations yet unborn to subordinate our individual political aspirations to one collective ambition—the rescue of our party and the rescue of Kwara state,” the coalition stated.
The group added that the OTOGE movement symbolised the people’s resistance against exclusion, impunity, political domination and poor governance, lamenting that those values had been eroded under the current administration.
