Professor Segun Aina, a Computer Engineering scholar, has officially assumed office as the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Aina took over the leadership of the examination body two months after President Bola Tinubu appointed him to prevent a leadership vacuum following the completion of Ishaq Oloyede’s 10-year tenure as registrar.
The 40-year-old assumed duty on Friday at JAMB’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, succeeding Oloyede, who served two five-year terms.
Announcing the appointment, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Aina as a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public-sector reforms.
Onanuga said Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering at the age of 39 and would now make history as the youngest registrar of JAMB.
In his first address after assuming office, Aina pledged to maintain the credibility of JAMB while introducing more technology-driven measures to tackle examination malpractice.
The new registrar warned those involved in examination fraud to desist, saying “their business is in a wrong institution.”
He said the board under his leadership would continue to deploy modern technology and strengthen partnerships with security agencies to protect the integrity of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and other examinations conducted by JAMB.
