Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has denied the claim by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, that President Bola Tinubu gave Oyo State N50 billion to upgrade the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.
Wike had made the claim on Monday while arguing that Makinde was among members of the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) G5 governors who had benefited from the Tinubu administration.
Speaking at a North-West town hall meeting in Katsina on Tuesday, Makinde dismissed the claim as false, saying neither he nor the Oyo State Government received N50 billion from the Federal Government for the airport project.
“My attention was called to an interview granted yesterday by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, where he said that the President gave ₦50 billion to your state, or to me, to upgrade the airports.
“I want to say that that claim is false. The President did not give ₦50 billion to me, or ₦50 billion to your state, to upgrade the Ibadan airport.”
Makinde maintained that the ongoing upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport was being financed entirely by the Oyo State Government.
“The Ibadan airport upgrade project is being undertaken 100 per cent with the money of your state,” he said.
