The Kogi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the death of Mariam Usman, a teacher at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Olamaboro Local Government Area.
The command said investigations had been concluded and established that the victim died after a series of coordinated assaults allegedly carried out by the suspects.
The development was disclosed on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Oyiza Afusat, who said detectives from the Homicide Section launched a full-scale investigation after a case of culpable homicide was reported on June 25, 2026.
According to Afusat, investigations revealed that Abdullahi Isiaka assaulted the deceased at her residence on June 17, 2026, following a disciplinary action she had taken against his 11-year-old son at school.
She said Mariam was attacked again later the same day while on her way to a mosque for prayers, allegedly by Ramatu Eleojo.
Afusat added that further investigations showed that on June 18, 2026, Ojonojima Mary, the younger sister of Ramatu, allegedly assaulted the teacher at her workplace.
The police said the victim was initially treated at Grace Clinic, Ugbamaka, before she was referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo, where she later died from her injuries on June 25, 2026.
Afusat said investigations established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the three suspects—Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo and Abdullahi Isiaka.
“The investigation has been concluded, and the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution,” she said.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Kankarofi commended the detectives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.
He also urged residents to shun self-help and continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to enhance effective law enforcement across the state.
