…Governor transmits power to deputy

The Oyo State House of Assembly Thursday approved the request of Governor Seyi Makinde to proceed on annual vacation as from Monday, August 10.

The lawmakers also approved that the governor should transmit power to the state deputy governor, Adebayo Lawal.

This followed the consideration of a formal correspondence from Governor Makinde by the lawmakers at the House plenary, in accordance with the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which requires a governor to notify the legislature whenever he intends to be away from office.

The letter by Gov Makinde to the House of Assembly, stated that he is expected to officially resume on September 14, 2026.

Governor  Makinde’s letter was read to members of the House by  the deputy speaker of the House, Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the plenary in the absence of the speaker, Adebo Ogundoyi.

In the letter, Governor Makinde, informed the lawmakers that he would be embarking on his annual leave and requested the approval of the House to enable the deputy governor to act on his behalf throughout the period of his absence.

The lawmakers then unanimously granted the request of Gov Makinde and expressed confidence in the seamless continuity of governance under the deputy governor.
