The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has challenged the Osun state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, to charge the suspects arrested for allegedly attacking the director general of campaign council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Wole Oke, to court.
The spokesperson of TICC, Pelumi Olajengbesi, at a press conference in Osogbo, Sunday, described as “false narrative,” the purported assassination attempt on Oke.
Olajengbesi said a video of the suspects where they were paraded raises fundamental questions about the integrity of the investigation conducted by the police, and it contradicts the public claims made during the parade of the suspects.
“We therefore demand that the Commissioner of Police immediately release the complete, unedited confessional statements and all video recordings obtained from the suspects from the point of arrest to the conclusion of their interrogation. The public deserves to know the truth, not carefully selected narratives designed to achieve political objectives.
“The Police command must explain why it publicly claimed that influential individuals were mentioned in the alleged plot while withholding the actual confessional statements from Nigerians. This selective disclosure has seriously undermined public confidence in the neutrality and professionalism of the police.
“If the Commissioner of Police fails to make these materials public, Nigerians will be left with no choice than to conclude that the Osun state Police commissioner has allowed himself to be used in a politically motivated attempt to smear innocent citizens and manipulate public opinion, with a view to achieving further sinister motive.
“We call on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu and the Police Service Commission (PSC) to immediately intervene, order an independent review of the entire investigation, and ensure that any officer found to have compromised the integrity of the Force is held accountable.
“We also demand that the police immediately charge the purported suspect to a court of competent jurisdiction if they genuinely believe any offence has been committed.
“Information available to the Imole Campaign Council indicates that Hon Wole Oke is mounting pressure on the police to grant the suspect administrative bail in what appears to be a desperate attempt to prevent the truth from emerging in open court,” he said.
