The Social Youth Movement (SYM) has launched its “One Million March for PVC” campaign in Kaduna state, intensifying efforts to promote voter registration and urging Nigerians, particularly youth, to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of future elections.
Speaking during a rally in Kaduna, the secretary of SYM, Mr. Okeike Christopher, said the movement was non-partisan and solely committed to promoting civic participation through voter registration.
“Our aim is not politics. Our objective is to create enough awareness so that everyone understands the importance of the Permanent Voter Card. Your PVC is your voice and your vote,” he said.
Christopher lamented low voter participation in previous elections, saying a small fraction of eligible voters ultimately determined the country’s leadership.
“We want to change that narrative. No PVC, no voice. No PVC, no vote. Every eligible Nigerian should register and participate in the electoral process,” he added..
He said the organisation would sustain community sensitisation through one-on-one engagement and social media campaigns to encourage more people, especially young Nigerians, to register.
Christopher also stated that SYM was collaborating with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to raise awareness on the extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
