Lagos: Police arrest 3 suspected cultists, recover firearms in Imota

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity during an intelligence-led operation in Imota, recovering firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons.

This was contained in a statement by the command’s Spoken SP, Abimbola Adebisi, on Wednesday, who stated that the operation was launched following credible intelligence from residents about the activities of suspected cultists in the area.

“Acting on the information, police operatives stormed the hideout and apprehended Jelili Adeyemo,37; alleged to be the armourer of the group, Bisoye Adewale, 42 and John Okeafo, 60”

“Items recovered during the operation included one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs, four cutlasses, and other incriminating exhibits”

Preliminary investigations identified the suspects as members of the notorious Aiye Confraternity. Police also disclosed that the recovered Beretta pistol allegedly belongs to a wanted cult leader identified only as “Mayibone,” who remains at large.

The suspects have since been arraigned in court and remanded in custody, while efforts are underway to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional weapons.

Commenting on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated the Command’s determination to rid the state of cult-related violence and other criminal activities.

He urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information that would aid crime prevention and the arrest of criminal elements.

The Command also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious persons, vehicles, or activities at the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.

The CP, added that the latest operation is part of the Lagos State Police Command’s sustained efforts to dismantle cult groups and strengthen security across the state.
