The Lagos State Government, through its Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, has commenced registration for the 2027 (1448 A.H.) Hajj pilgrimage and Ramadan Umrah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with intending pilgrims required to make an initial deposit of ₦7 million for the Hajj exercise.
It stated that this strategy was in compliance with the timetable approved by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and Saudi Arabian authorities, urging prospective pilgrims to register early and begin payment.
The Board Secretary, AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin, who announced the commencement through a statement made available to newsmen by the agency’s spokesperson, Taofeek Lawal, on Monday, said the Hajj application form costs ₦20,000, while the Ramadan Umrah form is ₦10,000, with both payments to be made at the Board’s Accounts Department.
Ajomagberin explained that intending pilgrims for the 2027 Hajj are required to pay an initial deposit of ₦7 million through a bank draft issued by any commercial bank in favour of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.
He, however, noted that the amount represents an initial payment, adding that the final fare would be determined by NAHCON.
“Any increase or reduction in the final Hajj fare will be communicated as soon as NAHCON announces the approved cost for the 2027 pilgrimage,” he said,
According to the board’s secretary, the deadline for the initial deposit for intending hajj pilgrims is September 2026.
For the Ramadan Umrah, intending pilgrims are to make an initial deposit of ₦5.7 million, also through a bank draft payable to the Board and obtain official receipts for every payment made to ensure transparency and proper documentation.
Ajomagberin said the early registration exercise complied with NAHCON’s directive requiring all state pilgrims’ welfare boards to conclude registration and financial commitments well ahead of the pilgrimage season.
According to him, the early preparations will facilitate timely visa processing, accommodation bookings, airlift arrangements and other logistics with Saudi authorities.
He disclosed that the Hajj and Umrah packages include accommodation within walking distance of the Holy Mosque in Makkah, reliable local transportation, daily breakfast and dinner, medical support, spiritual counselling, as well as guided visits to historical and religious sites in Makkah and Madinah.
The Board Secretary also announced that enrollment in the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) **Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme** has become mandatory for all intending pilgrims.
He said the policy is aimed at guaranteeing access to quality healthcare before departure, during the pilgrimage and after returning to Nigeria.
Under the arrangement, individuals will pay ₦15,000, while family enrollment attracts ₦55,000.
Ajomagberin reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to transparency, accountability and efficient service delivery, expressing confidence that, with the support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and the oversight of NAHCON, the 2027 Hajj and Ramadan Umrah operations would be among the most successful in recent years.
