The Police Service Commission has approved the deployment of eight Commissioners of Police to various state commands, including Cross River, Abia, Bayelsa, Plateau, Anambra, Edo, Jigawa and Delta, as part of efforts to strengthen policing and enhance operational effectiveness across the country.
The commission also approved the posting of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Auwal Mohammed as the new Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the PSC Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Kalu, the postings followed the promotion of former commissioners of police and were made to address operational exigencies.
Under the new deployment, Ajo Ordue, formerly Commissioner of Police, INTERPOL, Abuja, was posted to Cross River State Command, while Afolabi Wilfred moved from the Department of Training and Development to head the Abia State Command.
Also redeployed were Ayodeji Faniyan to Plateau State; Saka Adewale to Bayelsa State; Nnanna Oji to Anambra State; Patrick Daaor to Edo State; Tijani Murtala to Jigawa State and CP Samuel Etaifo to Delta State.
The PSC said the appointments were aimed at sustaining effective policing and ensuring continuity in leadership across the affected commands.
The newly appointed Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, AIG Mohammed, has over 33 years of policing experience spanning operations, criminal investigations, intelligence-led policing and police training.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Bayero University, Kano, and has previously served as Commandant of the Police College, Maiduguri, Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zones 3 and 6.
He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Speaking during the commission’s meeting, the Chairman of the session, retired Justice Paul Galumje, charged the officers to uphold the rule of law, remain neutral in the discharge of their duties and carry out their responsibilities with diligence and professionalism.
Galumje said the new postings placed a greater responsibility on the officers to maintain public trust and ensure effective policing in their respective commands.
Other members of the commission present at the meeting included Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed, retired Justice Christine Ladi Dabup and the Secretary to the Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
