Idris issues EO, declares Kebbi mass wedding annual event

Governor Nasir Idris Monday issued an Executive Order (EO) declaring mass wedding as annual event in Kebbi state.

Comrade Idris gave the order at the 3rd edition of a mass wedding held at the Haliru Abdu Stadium, Birnin Kebbi.

On the occasion, 300 couples, comprising 600 grooms and brides were joined in wedlock.

At the event, the state government paid the dowry of N250,00 to each of the couples, amounting to N75 million.

Governor Nasir Idris served as the Waliy (Guardian) to the brides while the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu, stood in as the Wakil (Representative) of the grooms, who accepted the hand of marriage of the brides.

Comrade Idris remarked that the mass wedding, initiated by his wife, Nafisa, and materially supported by the government, has served as a morale booster to cleanse the society and assist the less privileged to start a family.

“I’m assuring that the event has come to stay, the mass marriage will continue to take place annually.

“I thank my 1st wife, Nasare, and my 2nd wife, Nafisa, for always supporting me. I’ll also sustain my support, guidance and cooperation with them as a responsible husband.

“That’s why we have peace and tranquility in our home, both of them have performed creditably in enhancing the livelihood of males and females in Kebbi state, which I will encourage them to continue,” he said.
