Tim Tebow has been touched by an angel! Amid mass layoffs at ESPN, Tebow has reportedly signed a multi-year extension, keeping the former college football player with the network and hosting Saturday morning’s “SEC Nation,” a pregame show he’s been connected to for over a decade. The news of Tebow’s contract extension comes days after the network parted ways with former NFL stars and on-air talent Rayn Clark and Cam Newton.
ESPN announced on July 20, 2026, that Tebow had agreed to a multi-year contract extension to continue hosting “SEC Nation” during the college football season.
“I love this game and getting to talk about it every Saturday with the crews on SEC Network and ESPN is a gift I don’t take lightly,” said Tebow. “SEC fans bring a passion that never gets old, and I’m grateful I get to keep doing this alongside people who feel like family.”
Tebow will also make appearances on other ESPN shows, including “College Football Live,” “Sportscenter,” and more.
Burke Magnus, President of Content at ESPN, expressed his excitement about having Tebow stick around the network for a few more years, saying, “Tim is one of the legendary players in the history of college football and he will continue to be a fixture in our coverage on SEC Network and across ESPN.”
ESPN Has Parted Ways With Notable Talent, Including Ryan Clark
The news of Tebow’s contract extension comes at an interesting time, considering the company made headlines earlier this week after parting ways with top talent, including former Pittsburgh Steelers player Ryan Clark.
According to The Blast, ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said the company was forced to make hard decisions over the last few weeks, which included parting ways with Clark, who appeared on “NFL Live,” “First Take,” “Get Up,” and “SportsCenter.”
“Over the past several months, we’ve made significant progress integrating the NFL assets that we acquired into ESPN,” Pitaro wrote in a memo sent to the staff. “Throughout this process, we have taken the time to carefully evaluate our collective teams, resources and organizational structure to best position us for the future. As a result, we had to make some difficult decisions about job impacts that we will be communicating today.”
Clark Is Keeping His Head Held High After Losing His Job
While disappointing, Clark isn’t letting the news keep him down, as he posted a montage of videos of him working out on Tuesday, July 21, and informing his nearly one million Instagram followers that he was doing just fine.
“Proof of Life…” he captioned the post, which included a video of him dancing. “Before the madness of yesterday, I woke up, got in my Tundra, drove to Planet Fitness, and got to work.”
He added, “The rest of the day was eventful, but the journey continues. My peace is with God, and my humility comes from within. I’ll continue to build myself so the world can never strip me of what’s real.”
Clark even opened up about the news on his X account, writing, “Sending prayers and love to all those laid off today by ESPN. So many of you have poured your life into that company, & I know how you’re feeling right now. My hope is as this door closes another opens for you all. God bless!”
Cam Newton Had To Say Goodbye To ESPN, Too!
In addition to Clark, former Carolina Panthers player Cam Newton had to say goodbye to his role with the network, too!
Newton addressed his situation on an episode of his “4th&1” podcast, saying he was remaining encouraged throughout the transition. While acknowledging the disappointment of being laid off, he expressed gratitude for his time at ESPN and said he was looking forward to whatever opportunities come next.
“It’s unfortunate what happened to me, some would think, but I’m good,” he said. “‘4th&1’ ain’t going nowhere. ‘Funky Friday’ ain’t going nowhere,” referring to his own podcasts.
Newton explained that not only did he enjoy his time at ESPN, but he also found it informative.
“What I’ve learned, it was an internship almost. The production value. They are the leading sports source for a reason. They have the leading talent not only in front of the camera, but behind the scenes that make sure whether it’s a live show or whether it’s in studio that they are always on the cutting edge of topics and information and also how it’s rolled out,” he added.
Fans Are Reacting To Tebow’s New Contract With ESPN
Social media users are divided over the news of Tebow’s contract extension with ESPN, with reactions split down the middle.
Some believe it had to do with race, considering one person said they were “tired” of Black people “wanting to be in [white] spaces,” while another said, “LOL. Doing it right in front of your faces and y’all gon still support.”
Another user suggested Black entertainers, including Tyler Perry and Oprah, start their own sports network.
Others, meanwhile, said Clark and Newton’s departures were just part of business. “You cut your high payroll staff and bring someone younger, cheaper and with a smaller budget. We’ve seen this over and over,” they wrote.
Another added, “They do this often. Once your employees’ pay gets really inflated, you get rid of them and hire cheaper talent. I personally haven’t watched ESPN in years so it doesn’t matter to me. However I do understand business.”
