Calvin Bassey celebrates 100th Fulham appearance with special shirt

Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has been honoured for reaching 100 appearances for the Premier League club.

The Nigeria international was presented with a commemorative shirt before Fulham’s 1-0 pre-season victory over Stuttgart at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Bassey reached the landmark on May 17, 2026, when he started Fulham’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 26-year-old was also handed the captain’s armband against Stuttgart as new manager Alvaro Arbeloa took charge of his first home match.

Bassey delivered another strong defensive display as Fulham kept a clean sheet, while Timothy Castagne scored the only goal of the game from an assist by fellow Nigerian Alex Iwobi.

Arbeloa has quickly identified Bassey as an important figure within his squad and believes the defender has the personality to take on greater responsibility.

“Calvin is a proper player. He has everything. He’s a really funny guy, but when we have to work, he’s the first one. I really love Calvin. He can be our leader,” Arbeloa said.

Bassey joined Fulham in 2023 and has steadily established himself as a key member of the squad.

He made 32 appearances during his first season at Craven Cottage, followed that with 37 appearances in 2024/25 and featured 31 times last season before reaching the 100-game mark.

Fulham prepare for Chelsea opener

Bassey’s milestone was celebrated alongside Castagne, who also reached 100 appearances for the Cottagers during the 2025/26 campaign.

The defender will now be expected to play an important role as Fulham prepare for the new Premier League season under Arbeloa.

The Cottagers finished 11th last term and narrowly missed out on European football. They have strengthened their squad during the summer, bringing in Gonzalo Garcia and César Palacios from Real Madrid, while Shea Charles has joined permanently from Southampton.

Fulham will begin the 2026/27 Premier League campaign at home against Chelsea, with Bassey likely to be central to Arbeloa’s plans as the club target an improved league position.
