Residents and travellers on the Gusau–Mafara corridor are facing what analysts describe as a triple crisis of insecurity, transport collapse, and road failure, with conditions along the route from Bungudu through Tashar Abu, Maru and Danbaza described as the most dangerous in Zamfara state.
A public affairs analyst, Yusuf Digyadi, said the road has deteriorated so badly that movement within the state has become a major challenge.
“Today, I am from Bungudu to Tashar Abu to Maru all the way to Danbaza. The condition of the road has deteriorated to the point that traveling to Zamfara now comes with 3 major challenges,” Digyadi said.
The three major challenges he identified are the key problems crippling the route as insecurity for travelers, saying armed bandits now routinely target commuters along the Bungudu–Mafara axis and what began as isolated incidents in 2011 has escalated over the years.
Digyadi stated that potholes have become worse, which is why the road is empty and no one enjoys traveling on it.
The combination, he said, has effectively cut off communities and made daily movement risky and expensive.
