Cross River police seeks NOA support to tackle misinformation, violence

The Cross River State Police Command has sought stronger collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to tackle misinformation, prevent violence and improve security awareness across the state.

The command said effective policing requires active participation from citizens and collaboration with relevant stakeholders, stressing the need for sustained public enlightenment and grassroots engagement.

The Commissioner of Police, Geoffrey Ordue, made the call on Wednesday when the NOA State Director, John Asanye, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the command headquarters in Calabar.

Ordue identified the NOA as a strategic partner in promoting peace, responsible citizenship and peaceful coexistence across the state.

He said proactive communication and public enlightenment were critical to preventing crime, countering misinformation and disinformation, discouraging violence and building public confidence in the police.

According to him, the command would leverage the NOA’s public enlightenment platforms and community engagement structures to improve security awareness and ensure residents have access to credible information.

Ordue said the initiative was also in line with the Community Policing component of his D-D-C-I-I-D-D-T policing framework, which prioritises trust-building, stronger police-community relations and citizens’ participation in crime prevention.

Earlier, Asanye said the visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the two institutions and identifying practical areas for collaboration.

He expressed the agency’s readiness to work with the police to promote peace, security, civic responsibility and peaceful coexistence across the state.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration and grassroots engagement.

The command assured residents of its continued commitment to professional, people-oriented and intelligence-driven policing, while encouraging citizens to play an active role in crime prevention and public safety.
