Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested five bandits indulging in terrorism acts in Yobe State and it’s environs following a coordinated security operation that dealt blow to criminal networks operating in area.
The military operatives arrested the individuals, Hassan Lawan, 28, Isah Bello, 30, Haruna Suleiman, 20, Ibrahim Bello, 20, and Ahmadu Haruna, 19, after which it recovered three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, a locally made pistol, two rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 12 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, three Tecno mobile phones and an Android phone from them.
The enforcement which occurred yesterday at abound 2 p.m. in Jegalari village, Fune Local Government Area was said to have been carried out by troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI alongside members of the Yobe State Hunters Group during a raid targeted at a bandit hideout after intelligence reports linked the group to kidnapping activities.
A source mentioned that the suspects and the recovered weapons had been taken into military custody for further investigation to establish their alleged roles in kidnapping and other criminal activities.
“The operation reflects the sustained intelligence-led efforts of Operation HADIN KAI and other security agencies to dismantle kidnapping syndicates and criminal groups across the North-East and neighbouring states,” the source stated.
He further noted that security had remained stable in the area following the raid, while troops continued to maintain heightened vigilance against any possible retaliatory attacks or related criminal activities.
