3 police officers injured in Osun NURTW crisis 


Osun state police command has arrested one suspect while three policemen sustained injury when the suspects opened fire on officers. 

The police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, who paraded the suspect on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan,  said the suspect was arrested during the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) crisis in Osun.

Ojelabi said at about 5:30pm  Monday, a distress call was received by the command that there was a group of hoodlums shooting sporadically at Oke-Ijetu area, Osogbo. 

He said: “A team of Anti-Robbery and Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) personnel swung into action, and on getting to the scene, the hoodlums suspected to be faction of one Wakili Alowonle, started shooting at the police operative where three security operatives sustained various degree of gunshot injury and are responding to treatment at the Hospital. 

“During the encountered, the operative professionally arrested one suspect; Adedeji Saheed Opeyemi ‘m’ and confessed that, he was informed by Sibi that, he (Sibi) received a call from Alowonle that, they should meet at Oke-Ijetu Area, Osogbo. Also, Sibi came to meet him with two pump action gun and handed over one to him. He’s assisting the police with investigation for possible arrest of others at large,” Ojelabi added. 

The suspect confessed that he was holding the gun given to him by one “Sibi” who came from Ife garage.
