A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Sam Onuigbo, has called on all party members to close ranks and ensure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that this would be in recognition of Tinubu’s outstanding performance since 2023 when he became the president of the country.
Onuigbo served as a member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2015 and 2023.
He was the Chairman, House Committee on Climate Change and successfully sponsored the Climate Change Bill, which was later signed into law by then President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former lawmaker said in spite of their grievances in the last APC primaries nationwide, members needed to close ranks and ensure that the party retained power at the national level.
“We have to close ranks and work towards the smooth re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
“This is in recognition of his impressive performance during his first term in office. His re-election should be smooth and seamless.
“Because of what we have on the ground, the dividends of the great job he has done, it is important that he is re-elected to consolidate on those achievements,” Onuigbo said.
He said that Tinubu’s success could be felt in infrastructure development, stable and unified exchange rate and milestone road projects such as the ongoing Lagos-Calabar coastal highway.
“On the economic front, he has been able to unify and stabilise the foreign exchange rate; there is more revenue coming to the sub-nationals as a result of subsidy removal.
“He has expanded the economic prospects of the nation. He has done well in sustainable development.
On security, he commended Tinubu for military reforms which have seen the expansion of military divisions from seven to 12, as well as the moves to make the dream of state police a reality. (NAN)
